Edits by Instagram Review 2026: The Free App Closest to CapCut

Edits — 8.4/10

Instagram's free Edits app for iPhone and Android brings a CapCut-style timeline, auto captions and 4K export with no watermark; the trade-offs are an Instagram login and occasional crashes.

Completely free, 4K export with no watermark, familiar if you've used CapCut

What Edits is

Edits is Instagram's (Meta's) video editor, launched in April 2025 on iPhone and Android. Its timeline feels a lot like CapCut: cuts, text, music, voiceover, auto captions, green screen, keyframes and AI cutouts. You can also see Reels stats and post straight to Instagram and Facebook.

Free, with strings

Edits: free, with a few strings

At the time of writing there's no paid plan: export up to 4K with no watermark. In return you sign in with an Instagram account, projects max out at 10 minutes, and the app is only available in some countries. Music you import still needs your own licence.

Downsides

Some users report freezes or failed exports, especially on older phones. Your editing lives inside Meta's ecosystem, which is worth weighing if you work for clients.
