Is CapCut Safe? Privacy and Terms Every Creator Should Know
What creators should know about CapCut's content terms, data and its status in the US and Europe in 2026.
Is the app safe to install?
CapCut is ByteDance's official app, available on the App Store, Google Play and capcut.com. Download it from these official sources and avoid "mod" or cracked versions.
Content terms
CapCut updated its terms of service in mid-2025. Several tech outlets reported that the new terms give CapCut very broad rights over the content you upload, including for promotion. We are not lawyers: if you edit client work or exclusive content, read the current terms carefully before using the app.
Status in the US and Europe
CapCut was pulled from US app stores on January 19, 2025 and came back about a day later. According to reports, the TikTok US joint venture closed in January 2026 and covers CapCut. The app remains available in the US and Europe.
How to use it more safely
